This three disc collection marked in 2005 the first formal release of Julius Eastman's original works. Chronologically arranged, the pieces meander from the pop-inflected minimalism of Stay On It to the brutal, uncompromising, and appropriately taboo The Holy Presence of Joan D'arc. With occasional glimpses at Eastman's bombastic soul—If You're So Smart, Why Aren't You Rich?, named for a comment from his mother, comes to mind—and an archival recording of Eastman explaining his use of slurs in his compositions, the collection provides a rarely seen glimpse at Eastman as a composer in the context of his humanity, and a human in the context of his art.
